Another week, another viral sneaker moment from Kai Cenat.

Days removed from turning down A$AP Rocky’s Puma Christmas gifts, Cenat appeared Wednesday on NFL legend Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast.

The media giants sat down to talk through Cenat’s backstory, his ascent to internet fame and an endorsement-packed 2024 — including becoming the first streamer to receive a Nike deal.

“My ultimate [endorsement] was Nike,” Cenat said. “I love Nike. I didn’t grow up with the best shoes or gear, athletic gear or anything. And Nike, it came around the corner, I did not think it was possible.”

Later in the interview, Sharped asked how the Nike deal came to be.

“I think it started by them sending me a package to my house,” Cenat said. “I had opened it on stream, and my reaction was just crazy. They sent me sneakers and I was either saying it was good or not. And they just loved it, everybody loved it. Bro, when they told me they wanted me to be under Nike as a streamer I was like, ‘What?’”

But it was an unplanned sneaker slip-up that had the internet talking the most. Just over halfway through the discussion, as Cenat adjusts his feet, a piece of plastic comes tumbling off of his rare Nike Air Yeezy 2 “Red October” shoes. Both men pause to take in the sneaker scrap before Sharpe begins trolling Cenat over the mishap.

“Did we get that? This dude got on some fake Yeezys. He got on some Peezys,” Sharpe joked.

“Oh my gosh. Damn bro. Oh hell no. Yo, Cool Kicks,” Cenat said, referencing the Los Angeles resale shop where he acquired the rare sneakers.

Sharpe’s jokes aside, the “Red October” Air Yeezy 2’s age makes it susceptible to this sort of damage. The sneaker was originally released in February 2014 and over time, the plastic becomes brittle and weak.

Pairs are scarcer than ever these days — Cenat’s size 9 is currently not available on StockX — but other sizes have asking prices ranging from $10,500 to as high as $39,000. And on GOAT, the sneaker is listed for as much as $50,000.

As for which sneaker he’d most want to collaborate on, Cenat says he’d like to put his spin on the classic Air Force 1. “MF1s, some Mafia 1s,” he said. “Or KC 3s. I don’t know how I would color it, but it would definitely have a 3 on it, or something like that.”
