The 40th annual Independent Spirit Awards are taking place tonight in Santa Monica hosted by Aidy Bryant. The ceremony is hosted each year to celebrate the best of film and television from actors to directors.
Tonight’s most highly-anticipated categories include “Best Director,” Best Feature,” Best Lead Performance In A Film” and “Best First Screenplay,” among others. Notable attendees include Sebastian Stan, Hunter Schafer, Colman Domingo, Julia Fox, Patti LuPone, Hiroyuki Sanada, Demi Moore, Andrew Scott, Julianne Moore, Mikey Madison and Amy Adams. In honor of the star-studded occasion, FootwearNews is rounding up the best red carpet footwear moments of the night.
Julia Fox
Fox made a case for the classics on the blue carpet, sporting a pair of black pumps. The chosen silhouette featured glossy leather uppers, sharp pointed toes and subtle 1 to 2-inch heels, a stark departure from her usual sky-high footwear choices. Partnered with ankle socks, the footwear was both preppy and sporty.
The “Uncut Gems” muse also wore a full sweatsuit-inspired look from Willy Chavarria in partnership with Adidas. The look was comprised of a black and white zip-up and a matching pleated asymmetric skirt. Futuristic black sunglasses finished off her look.
Demi Moore
The “Ghost” actress stepped out alongside her beloved dog Pilaf in a pair of black slingback heels courtesy of Thom Browne. The style was equipped with glossy leather uppers that transitioned into thick straps that sat across the tops of her feet and around her heels. Metallic gold stilettos standing at around 3 to 4 inches in height rounded out the set, offering Moore’s look both height and an eye-catching shine.
Partnering perfectly with her dressy footwear, Moore wore a full Thom Browne ensemble featuring sheer paneling layered atop striking striped fabric. The thespian’s ensemble consisted of a blazer jacket and a dress fixed with structural black boning. Tiffany & Co. jewelry completed her look. Moore is nominated for “Best Lead Performance In A Film” for her work in the hit body horror film “The Substance.”
Natasha Lyonne
Lyonne took a retro route, reaching new heights in a pair of sky-high Si Rossi platform boots in a bone hue. Currently retailing for $1,425, the chosen silhouette was go-go boot-esque, equipped with platform soles, matt leather uppers, squared toes and modern sculpted heels standing at 5.11 inches.
The “Slums of Beverly Hills” star accompanied her platform footwear with a 70s-inspired strappy floral dress in a burnt orange hue.
Colman Domingo
Always one for serving a look, the “Rustin” actor flattered his feet in stark white boots. The style, which appeared to be ankle-length, included plush white uppers and zipper closures that transitioned into modern square toes. Non-slip leather soles gave way to short block heels in black.
Domingo also opted for a high-impact silver metallic suit made out of a shiny silky material. Said suit was relaxed but dressy, partnered with silver jewelry. Domingo is nominated for “Best Lead Performance In A Film” for his work in “Sing Sing.”
Elizabeth Olsen
The “Oldboy” actress donned a pair of tan pumps. The simplistic silhouette included matt leather uppers, triangular toes and sharp and thin 3 to 4-inch stilettos. The neutral choice in footwear allowed Olsen’s dress to take center stage, shifting focus towards the high-impact style.
Olsen stormed the blue carpet in pastels galore, also clad in a seafoam green and ballerina pink gown. The garment was crafted of sheer lace and featured a high neckline and intricate draping. A large bow sat on her shoulder, the lengthy ribbon ends trailing behind the thespian wherever she went.
Nava Mau
The “Waking Hour” star graced the blue carpet in a lofty pair of platform heels in black. The chosen silhouette was akin to Marc Jacobs’ iconic Kiki boots. Mau’s dramatic footwear featured glossy black leather uppers, bulbous toes, platform soles and thin straps that threaded through adjustable buckle closures that kept the style in place. 5 to 6-inch block heels rounded out the set, creating length and height.
Mau also wore a black sleeveless gown with stripes. The motif was likely meant to mirror the same detailing on a suit. The garment featured white tulle trim, giving the dress volume. Mau won “Best Supporting Performance In A Scripted Series” for her work in “Baby Reindeer.”
Hunter Schafer
Schafer took the blue carpet in a daring pair of Prada spring 2025 peep-toe heels. Straight off the runway, the chosen footwear featured shiny leather pink and gray striped uppers along with square open toes and thin ankle straps that secured the shoes in place. Flared trim decorated the 3 to 4-inch block heels, creating a whimsical appearance. The “Euphoria” star is all about taking fashion risks, and this look proves she never misses.
Simple and breezy, Schafer also wore a butter yellow floral dress with a strappy bodice and a flowing skirt. The model is nominated for “Best Lead Performance In A Film” for her work in “Cuckoo.”
