Fans of the New Balance 992 model have plenty to look forward to in 2025 following the temporary discontinuation of the sneaker in early 2022.
After giving the fan-favorite shoe some time in the vault, New Balance has big plans for the made-in-USA 992 this year following its reappearance via the Joe Freshgoods “Aged Well” collaboration.
With wider releases scheduled for March, one of the 992’s latest looks is already available in-store at Aimé Leon Dore. The first general release version of the shoe to be released is a brand new “Mushroom/Moonrock” combination.
Part of the Made in USA line curated by Aimé Leon Dore founder Teddy Santis, this colorway isn’t an official Aimé Leon Dore collaboration, but Santis did have a hand in its design and it’s being sold early at the retailer’s Queens, N.Y. store.

Stripped of most color, the “Mushroom/Moonrock” pairs combines earthy tones of gray, brown and tan along with a mixed material make up. The lowermost panels of the shoe use a hairy suede which is combined with leather, mesh and standard suedes for a textured aesthetic. A similar color and material execution is also featured on new “Mushroom/Moonrock” 990v6 release which is set to hit stores in March.
Along with this new “Mushroom/Moonrock” 992, it’s been confirmed that the sneaker’s original gray colorway — which was once favored by late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs — will also be making a return, with a likely retail arrival in March.
Described by Aimé Leon Dore’s product description as “Taupe/Brown,” the New Balance 992 “Mushroom/Moonrock” is available from the retailer now for $200 exclusively in-store. A wider release, which is tentatively set for March 27, will follow at select New Balance stockists.
Beyond these, readers can expect numerous New Balance 992 styles both new and classic to be released throughout ’25 including a collaboration with Kith.
